Duetact is a prescription medication used to treat type 2 diabetes that combines two medications:
- ACTOS decreases insulin resistance—a condition in which the cells in your body have become resistant to a hormone (called insulin) that lets them turn blood sugar (glucose) into energy.
- Glimepiride stimulates your pancreas to make more insulin, which helps lower your blood sugar level.
The two medications in duetact work together with diet and exercise to help lower your blood sugar levels and keep them under control. And better control over your blood sugar may help you avoid health problems caused by type 2 diabetes.
If you have type 2 diabetes, diet, exercise, and medication can help lower your blood sugar levels and keep them in a healthy range. This is important, because good blood sugar control is the key to successful management of your type 2 diabetes.
For a lot of people, however, diet, exercise, and one prescription medication are not enough to control blood sugar levels. Sometimes it is necessary to use more than one medication, and that’s where duetact comes in.
You can think of duetact as a helpful tool to help you meet your blood sugar goals. And when your blood sugar is in control, it not only helps you feel better, it’s also the best way to help reduce the risk of long-term health problems.

Management of type 2 diabetes should also include nutritional counseling, weight reduction as needed, and exercise.
